Please note: all members agree to abide by the Victorian Gem Clubs Association Field Trip Code of Ethics, which includes:

1. Before entering private property of any kind for the purpose of collecting, mining, prospecting or camping, permission must be obtained from the owner or other person responsible for the site. [The field trip organiser will usually undertake to obtain permission on behalf of the group on a formally organised excursion]

2. Where permission is obtained members must obey any direction or restriction given by the person in charge of the property; members must take note of any advice or precaution given.

3. Gates on properties must be left as they are found; unless permission is given, areas under crops must not be crossed.

4. Stock or other animals must not be interfered with or unnecessarily disturbed.

5. Firearms are not to be taken on field trips.

6. Pets are not to be taken on field trips.

7. Areas should be left as found; holes should be filled in; litter should be taken out of the area (not buried).

8. Digging should not be into stream beds; trees should not be undermined.

9. Correct fire precaution procedures must be followed; only fallen timber may be used; fires must be extinguished by covering with earth; members are responsible for knowing whether a Total Fire Ban has been declared.

The Club also has its own agreed rules:

1. When members are travelling to a site in convoy an experienced driver is to lead and another is to bring up the rear; all drivers are responsible for ensuring that the following vehicle is aware of a change in direction.

2. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an appropriate adult as the Club is not in a legal position to take responsibility for them.  They may have to be excluded from some field trips into commercial sites – the decision will be that of the site owner, not the club, and is not negotiable.
