Maffra and District Historical Society usually has members available at the Maffra Library from 1pm to 3pm on the second and fourth Thursdays from February to mid-December to answer queries. Some of our photographs and archives are held at the Maffra Library, and some at the Beet Museum, so it is wisest to check in advance if you wish to see particular items.
The museum is open from 10am to 2pm on the first Sunday of the month from February to December. Admission is $2.50 per adult.
The Museum, the former weighbridge and office of the factory, features the story of the growth of sugar beet, our agricultural history and the Maffra area in general. Local history books are for sale.
Group bookings can be made for openings outside these hours, where an opening fee applies.
The Society’s collection covers all of the former Maffra Shire (including Heyfield, Glenmaggie, Tinamba, Newry, Boisdale, Briagolong and Bundalaguah).
We also operate a facebook page and pages for Briagolong (Briagolong History), and there are pages also for Heyfield and Boisdale.
The Society can carry out family history and other research. Enquiries should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org A research fee usually applies for extensive work.
These contact numbers are for the historical society only. If you are seeking accommodation etc, contact the number on the information provided under accommodation on the Visit Maffra pages.
